The President of M-1 Global, one of the most formidable MMA promotion in Russia, expressed his disappointment about recent UFC broadcast deal with Russian TV. According to Finkelstein, Russian TV-channels shouldn’t have given so much broadcasting time to UFC when “there’re certain national products that can provide MMA product of the same high level”. Is this a sign of fear from №2 person in Russian MMA?

“I can’t be happy with the news that main Russian sports broadcaster gives so much air-time for showing Western promotion’s events, – said Finkelstein about recent UFC broadcast deal with Russian TV, – I agree that there should be some time allocated when Russian fighters participate in Western leagues. But they shouldn’t broadcast the whole event where, for example, only one fighter from Russia participates”.

As M-1 Global President claims, UFC taking much broadcasting time on Russian TV causes harm to Russian MMA promotions. Finkelstein is sure that Russian TV-giants should support national promotions rather than Western ones. According to his statement, M-1 Global events are at least not worse than what UFC can offer for Russian audience.

“I think that Russian TV-channels should provide their support to Russian MMA promotions primarily, – says Finkelstein, – We can provide them with product of a high quality. In fact our product is not worse than Western one. For example, our TV-channels don’t broadcast NHL, but show us KHL instead – this is completely right. I don’t mind if UFC brings their show to Russia. What I’m against of is giving so much air-time of Russian TV-channels for the Western product that can be provided by Russian MMA promotions”.
